okay. i’m going to get through this series eventually, because i really want to be able to read the crossover book that came out last year, but i have to say i am struggling through these books. the third-person narration reaaaaaally throws me off - i think part of the sustained magic of the original Percy Jackson series is that it’s first-person. i don’t love the choice to switch back and forth between three narrators here; i feel a lot of the emotion and likability of the characters is lost. that being said, the creativity is of course extremely high, and i enjoyed the adventure of this one. but at no point did i find myself truly left guessing what might happen next, or surprised by the plot - EXCEPT on the literal last page of the entire book. that’s a true cliffhanger there. so! i will read the next one, but considering this one took me 2.5 months to get through (and the amount of other books i started and finished during that time), i’m not in a huge rush.

- liked this trio more that TLH trio (like Hazels backstory / powers is probably the coolest out of any of the seven)
- Camp Jupiter is cool but I feel like RR rushed Percy’s attachment to it like he’s like “omg these people are my family to” … girl you’ve only been there for 48 hours. I guess what kinda explains it is his whole “me and Annabeth could settle down here” but still …
- Nico appearance is always appreciated
