Oh. My. God. The illustrations are actual art, the story and high fantasy history on point, almost all female characters, MAGICAL MULTI-TAILED CATS??? Could not be better. I could stare at one page of this for hours. Truly special and I'm really excited to read the next one!

While I usually don't like books with monsters, I went into this one knowing it would be dark and gory, which helped.
Honestly, I was blown away.
The artwork is fantastic -- I would seriously stare at panels taking in the beauty of a scene.
The story is deep and interesting. I usually have a problem with pacing in comic books, but not with this one. Everything flowed really well and there weren't any weird chops. I also really want to know what is going to happen next.
I do think there were times when there were too many words on a panel, but considering how much we need to know about the background, it made sense.
This has become one of my favorite graphic novels and I cannot wait to read the next installment.

The artwork alone deserves 5++ stars; it's so beautiful and incredibly detailed! There were times when I just stopped reading to stare at the art!
Overall, I'd give this volume a 4 stars because there are quite a few things I'm somewhat confused about. The world is very interesting but it took me a while to understand and get into the story because the plot is pretty complex, hopefully things get a little clearer as the story continues. I can't wait to pick up the next volume!
