A good book to get started on calligraphy. Lots of good ideas on lettering and writing. This book also gives good instructions on how to write different lettering and offers many pages for practice. A good read.

A guide to creating beautiful word art and penmanship. Great for the DIYer of many trades. Perfect for someone who loves quotes, writing letters, or anyone obsessed with chalkboard paint. (who isn't right?) I taught myself a lot of hand lettering and calligraphy techniques with this book. It gave some great tips, but some of the topics were pretty surface level. I would have loved to see more information on font pairing, or how to draw/letter some of the more detailed styles. Overall a cool resource.

Excellent book on the fun and personalized art of hand lettering. A bit of 'how to' and a lot of suggestion and variations, includes how to do set-ups for quotes/sentences and working in water and chalk media. Good general reference book for the beginner.

Divided pretty equally amongst calligraphy, hand lettering, and chalk lettering, with a couple pages on digitalizing, and a few projects. Remember when chalk lettering was so popular? I still love that look.

Love the range of this book- after about 100 calligraphy/lettering books, it's awesome to pick up something new and see different projects!

I would recommend this book series for letterers who have some background and experience with letterforms and or art. The projects are simple and interesting, and can spark the creativity, but they make lettering/calligraphy sound “easy” to do and I feel like it would frustrate beginners to start here. If you are able to copy another’s work, this will give you plenty to work off. If you want to learn how to create from your own mind, this isn’t the best to start with.

The real value I find in these books is being introduced to a variety of Calligraphers and illustrators. Each section is written by a different artist and their studio information is in the back. It’s helpful to see how others put together and brand their businesses.
