I like this one. I’ve not read Nadine Gordimer but she had won Nobel and Booker Prizes and therefore I had heard of her. This book was not the easiest for me to read because of the surge of feelings it raises throughout its journey through the characters trying to reclaim power that has been lost by oppression but I am glad I read it. It’s widened my perspective once again, and made me think about innocence, humanity and what we would be like without the innumerable things that people come up with to divide us

I don't know if it was just the kindle copy I had, but the lack of quotation marks made it really hard for me to follow when conversations began and ended. Once I got the hang of it I really enjoyed the story, just be warned it may be hard to follow if you struggle with things like that, like I do!

This was a really good book. It provided a very different perspective on apartheid from others which I read. Definitely worth a read!

Really tough book to understand. I had to Google it to get the overarching message. It is so important to note this was written ten years before the end of apartheid. The author is imagining a world of its undoing.
I loved the upset basket power dynamic between the white family and their black servant who ends up being their savior.
