This was a pretty fun read. I really like these characters and the beginning pulled me right back into this family’s story and gave me a lot of feels, but the middle meandered a bit and the pacing felt slow. Overall I did enjoy it and will read the 3rd book. 3.5 stars.

I seriously love these books. I dont know if its because I actually love them, because they have a fairytale vibe or because of damn Nova, but I swear I thrust them at people all the time

4.5 stars!

I love books featuring a strong bond between sisters and Cordova delivers. I was hesitant about this book when the ARC became available simply because zombie stories are usually overdone or cliche. But Cordova weaves such an intricate tale with the lore and brujería tied to that love we feel we can’t let go of at a young age that it’s both entrancing and immersive.

Latinx fans of Charmed looking for brujas that look like them, should not miss this series.

This was a quick listen, but it was gory and disturbing, hence the three stars.

From Chapter 1:

"One, we’re brujas. Witches. Magical BAMFS with powers gifted by the Deos, our gods. A house full of magic is bound to cause some friction, and after what Alex did, there is plenty of friction."

Ok, so Zoraida Córdova is one of my favorite YA authors now.

I loved this book! Not as much as Labyrinth Lost, but the reasons have to do with personal preference (I love witches, don't really care about zombies, I relate more to Alex vs Lula), not with the plot or writing. The plot and writing was fantastic, fast paced, just enough action and love story but really with a focus on family and sisterly love.

Córdova's books don't usually make me emotional, EXCEPT for a few scenes at the end. It is always packed with action but the endings always focus on the family, especially their relationship with their mother, and their want/need for her, the relationship between the sisters, their relationship with themselves and their power, their community, etc. It is always so touching and written in a way that isn't sentimental or manipulative.

Also - SPOILER - They move to Queens at the end!! I can't wait to have Queens as the backdrop for the last book and to see Rose's story. Hoping for another LGBTQ storyline but I have a feeling Adrian was introduced to be her love interest. So excited for the last installment.
