I always enjoy Ortberg's humor, particularly when they combine it with obscure literary knowledge. I think each of these texts was quite funny alone, but the sameness of the schtick (historical/fictional figures are flaky pains-in-the-butt) wears after a while.

A cute idea but I think some of the text chains would have been improved if the person sending them was labeled. My favorites were Wuthering Heights, Hamlet, the American Girl books, and of course Keats and his Urn.

Funny and irreverent, Texts From Jane Eyre is fan fiction at its very best. Imagine screenshots of texts written by famous literary characters and authors and you've got the gist of this book. If I wasn't familiar with the characters writing the texts, I'd do a quick google search for the books to have a very basic point of reference. That was highly enjoyable for me---I feel like I've got a broader (although still quite shallow) understanding of literature than before I picked the book up.

Fun and smart - not every section hit equally hard but overall very funny and enjoyable.

Funny and smart - Mallory Ortberg knows her stuff! The Emily Dickinson and Wuthering Heights chapters were my favorites.

I chuckled multiples times with this. I think Emily Dickinson was my favorite.
