An inspiring piece on feminism and standing up for yourself and others when the time is right.
Wonderful. Terrific writing, great story of teen angst and #metoo told with humor and heart. Note to self: get Roxanne Gay’s Bad Feminist.

This is a great read. Marin's English Teacher kisses her and she doesn't know what to do. She reports him. This can complicate her life. She writes an editorial about sexism and begins a feminist book club at school. Powerful stuff, high school girls should read this book.

yes finally a good read after a series of meh and mid! this book was soso good at showing the innate double standards between men and women and the sexism that exists in society today. i loved seeing the mc's growth from the beginning of the story, and i also loved her relationships both w her best friend and gray. the only thing is that one of the plot points was really predictable (). however this didn't really take away from the plot as a whole
i highly recommend read read read!!

This is a very powerful YA book! The protagonist is trying to find her identity and eventually found it through eventful high school senior year - breaking up with her old boyfriend, standing up for herself and her friend, losing her friendship and but having it back at last. Again, LOVE the narrator.
This book hit me, it hit me harder than I thought it would. It was short and readable but to the point. It cut deep and it made me aware that I really want to read more books about feminism, sexism and educate myself about these topics.
It saddens me deeply that sexual assault, sexism, racism and victim shaming is something thousands of humans have to deal with on daily basis. It's horrifying that we live in a society where people are not taken seriously when they decide to speak up against predators and abusers. It is disgusting and unbelievably wrong.
This book was such a great way of letting people, especially young girls know that it's okay to speak up and it's normal to come forward with their stories.
This book was also very well written, I felt engaged in the story and it was also educative and motivating.
I loved Marin. She was so strong, fierce and I admired her for her boldness and her beliefs. It was devastating seeing her question herself and being unsure if she was the reason for her assault. The victim is never the problem. The problem is that fucking asshole who thinks it's okay to sexually harass someone.
I loved her so very much and her courage was truly inspiring. At times I was so frustrated with her for shrugging things off and steping away from the problem but then I remembered that it's not as easy as it may seem to handle that kind of situatuon.
She changed so much as a person and even though the reason for her change was tragic, the change itself was amazing. She grew to be more aware of her surroundings, culture and behavior of others and she grew to be more unapologetic.
Briefly abut Chloe. I was so fucking pissed at her for abandoning Marin and not believing her. I was hurt for Marin and I really didn't like Chloe.
Then the ending happened and I was shocked. I was shocked and angry at myself because I should have known something was up with her too. It was heart-wrenching to know she was a victim too but their article in their paper was the most brave thing and I was so pround of them both.
Bex was the perfect example of a predator. This book was so fucking clever at the beginning. It started out with Marin and Bex having a great relationship and getting along well. We were meant to believe he was a good guy. We were led to like him and feel comfortable with him just like Marin because on the outside yes, he was an easy-going and cool guy but on the inside he was a disgusting man.
He didn't feel regret at any point during the book. He didn't say sorry for what happened once. He was just making sure he wouldn't be the bad guy. He was making Marin believe she led him on and invited him to kiss her.
What truly blew my mind was how he was acting. First like it was nothing and then hateful. He wanted to ruin Marin's future at Brown. I really hated this guy. He was disgusting and it was horrible how all the students were on his side and nobody supported Marin.
Jacob was an asshole and if I were there I would kick him in the balls. He was so prideful and ignorant.
Gray was the sweetest guy ever. He was one of the few peole in this book I truly loved. He was so understanding, caring, respectful, funny, flirty and just so great with Marin. He always knew how to act, he was charming and he was so well brought up by his moms.
But also... The end. I mean common! I thought they would get back together. I know they probably will because it was hinted at at the end and by the way their conversation went but still. I wanted them together right then and there. They were so perfect and cute together.
This book was difficult to read at times. It was frustrating, beautiful, necessary and it was hopeful. It was hopeful at the end not just for Marin and the other girls but also for people in real life struggling. It gave hope that there are ways to be happy and recover from those bad things. I really enjoyed this story and I feel like it deserves to be read by many people.
Oh and my favorite was the actual article for Rules For Being A Girl. That shit was the biggest truth I've read and it knocked a breath out of me.
