Every high school girl (and everyone, really) should get to read this.
Sometimes you find a book that slaps and you are so happy that you finally found a book that you really enjoyed. Rules for Being a Girl was that book for me.
Marin is a star student. She admires her English teacher and he admires her writing and they talk about books together. One day, he took it too far. Marin is horrified and eventually tells the school administration about it, but they don't believe her. Now, her English teacher has an ax to grind, but she isn't going to give in. Marin figures out a way to fight back.
I really loved everything about this. After everything that happened, Marin is ready to fight back. She learns about the world around her and the sexism that is in everyday life and she works to fight back against it. It just... there was so much good in here??
They also talked about a number of other books in here with the book club and I'm so mad at myself for not writing them down because some of them sounded so good! So if anything, I need to reread for those recs again.
I throughly enjoyed the romance that was in here too. It was soft and adorable. It really made me weak despite the other rage inducing other topic.

This book does a great job of looking at microaggression against women. I love the angle of looking at sexism in a high school environment, and all the characters are amazing. Highly recommend
There’s something about a good feminist book, especially one that fills me with rage at the audacity of men
so so good and relatable without being cringey about highschool, wrapped up really nicely and covered difficult topics
OK so I read this book in a few hours and it’s like I’m pretty sure I found this book on a website that was like best coming-of-age books or whatever this book is not that now but it was interesting I did not think that the relationship between Maren and gray was good like there was no progression it had no buildup it was like oh my gosh you shut up to the book club in and then she falls in love with him then she’s like no oh so if your name I mean if you’re a teacher and you allow your students to call you but I shortened it like a nickname why would you do that because that’s so weird new menu and you make it back gross what I said I don’t like about this book why did they randomly make the little sister like really good at chess that’s an added nothing to the plot and the way that they kind of just like through in side characters but there are so many of them also Bex is a creep you’re so freaking weird well I did like that about this book was it kept me interested sometimes when it was slow down it was like OK like it was a bit slow for like two seconds but then like once you hit like an interesting popular oh my gosh and I are used cloud library like an audiobook and that I think that really helped me yeah who would I recommend this book to the best of the second book that I have read this year that has a book club in it and it’s kind of like has feminism in it like a feminist book club and stuff was it a book club no wasn’t it was a crochet club never mind ignore that last bit and this is the second book that I’ve read name of i’m also reading of curses and kisses right now and the love interest in that box name is gray with an E but in this book the love interest is gray with an a I have like a cool like oh my gosh ha ha it goes fast yeah OK I would recommend this book to people that want to read like a quick story with feminism in it and a bit of romance are you back to such a creep I am so much predator gross yeah OK I’m done for real oh wait no I’m not view that this is an edited and it was because I use voice to text so this is what I sound like and I did connect the parts were someone kept on walking into my room while I was doing this and I was a bit embarrassing OK then I’m done for real bye-bye

Oh my goodness. I forgot how much I love reading YA fiction. I read this book in one day. Not only is this book relatable, but it touches on such important content for young girls nowadays. I really enjoyed how our main character, Marin, was constantly struggling with trying to learn more, do what felt right in her heart, and be a good human being (while going through truly heart-wrenching trauma). I felt angry, sad, and at a loss for words during this novel. I fell in love with Gray and wanted to rip apart Bex. Every girl should read. And every boy, too.
I didn’t find the writing style very intriguing but loved the ending and this books message!
