I would literally read restaurant reviews for fun if they were written by Laini Taylor so this collection of short stories is no exception. God DAMN her writing is magical.
She thought she could taste the words, all ginger and chili and sugar, fiery and sweet, and she held them in her mouth like candies.
Three stories about three kisses – one with a goblin, the second one destined to be ruined by a curse and the third one with an immortal touch. I liked the first story the least, the characters felt shallow and childish and though the fantastical element was interesting it felt a bit bland. The second one was my favourite for it felt like a beautiful and oriental fairytale, I really loved it. The third story fascinated me for the way Laini managed to build worlds and creatures in not too many pages but I didn't care too much for anyone but Mab and Esme.
Lips Touch wasn't something too spectacular for me but it was enjoyable. Laini's writing is very distinct, she has a way with words, always so colourful, you can almost taste the ripeness of the fruits and feel the nectar drip off the pages, that's why I loved the DOSAB trilogy.
These are three very interesting and strange stories that I found to be very interesting the last story was the best one still strange but still very interesting. So overall I enjoyed reading all of these stories.
4.5
I love Laini Taylor and her quirky stories. I devoured Spicy Little Curses just like these. I struggled a bit with Hatchling but was fascinated all the same.
She has a magical, whimsical, and unique imagination and reading her work feels like a privilege.

These short stories were perfection! dark, eerie and whimsical, I was not expecting to love these stories so much but the first to short stories were definitely my favorite ones.

Third story was longer than I would have liked, but all three were inventive and compelling.
This book serves as further proof why this author is one of my favorites! Her books are pure magic!
This book is seriously gorgeous (excuse the cover and the title because trust me this book is WAYYYY better than they would suggest.) The illustrations and the characters and the ideas and the WRITING!!!!!!! Seriously, this book is just slightly behind [b:Summer and Bird|13595635|Summer and Bird|Katherine Catmull|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1346508622s/13595635.jpg|19184200] which has probably the best writing in any book ever. It's so good, and this book is definitely putting up a fight for that #1 spot. I liked [b:Daughter of Smoke & Bone|8490112|Daughter of Smoke & Bone (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #1)|Laini Taylor|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1461353773s/8490112.jpg|13355552] which is another of Ms. Taylor's books and thought that it was good but not good . I may have to go back and read that again because this is seriously so good. Highly recommended.
This is book has three stories that all revolve somewhat around a kiss. They are all fantasy related and based on fairytales from different cultures and ideas and they have beautiful illustrations at the beginning of each that tells kind of a pre-story that you can't understand until you've read the story and then it's just this gorgeous visualization.
SPOILERSSSSSSSSS DISCUSSION!!!!!!!!!!
Okay, the illustrations guys. Oh my goodness, the palate and the red hue over everything and the cage with the red hair and they were so gorgeous. The hopeless romantic in me also likes that this gorgeous book was a husband and a wife working together, that just makes me happy <3
The first one first: The description of the girls that the goblins go for, beautiful. I also just liked Kizzy as a character and I'm sure were I in her position, I would most likely have kissed him as well.
The second one second (yes I know I didn't write much about the first one but while it was the one I related to most it was probably my least favorite and also the one I read first so I don't remember a whole lot about it.) That curse sounds like hell. I talk A LOT, so not being able to do so and having to just become a background statue. And then loosing some of that control for just a minute and having everyone who you've ever known die. Can you imagine that kind of horrible responsibility? And everyone who's ever met you either mocks you or is scared of you, it'd be so hard to have a relationship.
And can you imagine being "the old b*tch"? That would be horrible, you have the weight of all those children and even all those horrible people on your shoulders. You have to descend, literally, into hell like everyday and it is your job, and yours alone, to keep a leash on a sadist, psychotic demon. That would be horrible and I pity her, and new her, everyday.
The end of that one where it was like (paraphrasing), "Jake knew that his wife loved him, the whole rescuing him from the depths of hell helped." That's just one of the small little pearls of humor that was only sometimes scattered throughout.
And then the last one. Geez. Intense.
Firstly, can you imagine being Mab? Firstly going through all that horrible stuff with the Queen and then she learns that the Queen was a part of her daughter, the silver lining of her life. Having to try to meld both the worst and best things that happened to her would be so hard.
The part that was really hard for me was that I waned to vote for the Druj getting their souls back, but they were making innocent humans go through excruciating pain and live for a much longer than natural time without even a semblance of consent. That part kind of disgusted me because I would never be able to do that to someone else and that shows me how soulless they are more than many of the other things that they did. It also made it really hard for me to like Mihai knowing that he felt no shame doing that to small little babies.
The descriptions of the world and beasts and the cage and the hair and the sex but not between the people but almost with the Queen… Anyway, it was all beautiful.

Really beautifully written, intricate stories: 96%
