Journey
As a whole I hate journey stories because that is usually the whole story. In this case it is a journey that has a purpose, but there is no long term goal. Except to be in Pairs in 20 years.
Good, well researched book. Now on to the next book in the series.

beatifully written, Deborah continue to show how Parvana is not giving up even when every door close in her face, she continue to show compassion and the will to fight.

I read this when I was in elementary school. One of my favourite books. I hope you read it too.

This is very good and also unbearably sad.
“Tanks were normal. Bombs were normal. Why couldn’t food be normal? // They had salvaged what they could after the house was bombed. There was a bit of rice spilled on the ground. They picked it out of the dirt grain by grain. There wasn’t enough water to cook the rice, and no cook-pot, so the children had to chew the rice kernels raw.”
This is a children’s book, but I’d hesitate to recommend it to an actual child because it’s so, so bleak. Every chapter brings a new horror, made worse because the characters are kids themselves. I’ll finish the series because it feels irresponsible to look away and also because I hope it ends with hope.
“‘I don’t even feel like me any more,’ Parvana said, talking more to herself than to anyone else. “The part of me that’s me is gone. I’m just part of this line of people. There’s no me left. I’m nothing.”

It's easy to root for Parvana and Leila, less so for Asif. But also people with trauma are sometimes difficult to care for, so it makes sense. Another I couldn't put down.

This is the 2nd of the Breadwinner series and continues the story of Parvana. Now Parvana is alone and searching for her family. As she travels she meets and takes in other children. This little band forms a family of sorts and is able to assist each other survive.
This may be a children's story but covers the hardness of war and survival. Children may need to debrief after reading this.
Can't wait to read the next in this series.

I thought is was a great story, and it certainly had a lot of cliffhangers that made me want to read on. I can't wait to read Mud City to find out what happens next.
