I'm just on a role right now fishing books since I'm actually on break from classes.

This book was very much a middle book in a trilogy. Yes it moved the story forward, but it was definitely just set up for the final book. This ended with a decent cliffhanger so I'm excited to finish the trilogy with In the Afterlight. I also am interested to see if Alexandra Bracken continues down the path of love triangle that she hinted at in this installment.

While this ending wasn't as heartbreaking as the first book, it was still pretty sad. And also exciting. I loved this book, just like I loved the first. This series is bloody amazing. Definitely one of my favourite series ever!

Also, Chubs is definitely my favourite character. And I missed Zu in this book. But Chubs! I love him so much!

I could not put this book down for more than a few minutes. I really liked it.

Surprisingly, I enjoyed this book better than the first. I liked the new characters a lot, and I liked the evolving friendship between Ruby and Chubs, too. There's still some pacing problems, but the story is interesting and I definitely want to know what happens and how everything concludes.

I am not a habitual book-buyer. Unfortunately, I just can't budget it. I have to rely on my library. When I buy a book, I have to really love it and know that I'll be rereading it more than once. So I should state here, after I finished this book, I went and bought the whole series. I don't know what the third book will be like, but after reading the first two, I have faith. I should also mention that I hardly ever read companion novellas. It's just not my style. I don't know why. But I will be reading the ones for this series. I can't even help myself. I want to devour this entire world that Bracken has created.

There's nothing I can really say about this that I didn't say in my review of The Darkest Minds. If you think the first book is good, the second will blow you out of the water. Every step you take through this story is intense and heart-wrenching and exciting. There are new characters, and they're drawn as vibrantly as the characters we met in the first book. Ruby has grown and changed, but you won't love her any less. She is the kind of character you WANT to root for. Even when she makes the wrong choices, even when she disappoints you. You want all the good in the world for her, because she wants all the good in the world for everyone else.

Would have been a lot better without all the incessant whinging. I mean it's an intriguing story; the characters are growing/developing; the action is more intense; but what's with all the self-flagellation? I'm beginning to hope for a Divergent-esque twist here in book 3…

This book had it's ups and downs. I enjoyed listened to it, but it also seemed to have too many twists and turns and didn't know exactly what it was doing/wanted to do. It was really easy to feel like you were getting lost in the plot. Sometimes it feels like it's written remarkably well and others it feels pretty amateur. There were some plot points that seemed very cliche and predictable, one in particular that I saw coming but felt like it was very unnecessary and gratuitous (just there for effect), to be honest.
But, there were also some killer imagery/visuals going on and interesting world building-some places, especially where trying to be creepy, this really succeeded. Good and bad, but I'll still pick the next one up from the library if it shows.

i remember LOVING the darkest minds when i read it last summer but i definitely should've reread that before embarking on the sequel because i remembered maybe 25% of that plot going into this. genuinely, i cannot really tell you what happened in this book. i think a lot of new characters were introduced? or i just didn't remember them from book one. either option is possible. anyway, chances are i'll read book three without rereading this book OR book 1 so look out for that mess!!

Damn, just damn. That's all I can say.

I'm quite bored at some parts, and I have no time to read this book continuously... have to take a break after a couple of chapters.
