I was expecting this to be a beginner's book on racism, but it is not that at all. It very much focuses on politics and how all different political sides contribute to racism. It gets into the nitty gritty details, probably more than needed at times. Unfortunately I am not a person who much enjoys politics in general, so it was difficult for me to get into this book. However, it does contain a lot of valuable information worth knowing.

Wow, this book is powerful and I think it is the perfect read for anyone who wants to know more about race relations and the basics of the civil right movement. It presents a clear picture of oppression: mostly examining racism in America. I've read a lot of books about race and oppression and I think this one does such a great job of breaking it down in a very detailed and comprehensive way. Definitely worth the read.

Disappointing.

A book that breaks down the state of white supremacy that we swim in. I had to google both academic terminology and colloquial definitions found in the urban dictionary. You will be challenged. You may be offended. Read it anyway

Oh geez, if only the actual people who needed to read this book would, then maybe just maybe folks would have a better understanding of what's what in the world we live in of white supremacy. This is something that only gets talked about from people or organizations who are asked to speak about it. Your regular, average, every day folks never bother & yet they are the ones who need to have a better understanding. The long history of racism in most countries is something people think has gone away & we're not racist. Well, wake up people, this happens day after day in places everywhere. It's unfortunate & depressing & enraging & disempowering. The author does a great job of explaining everything from the racist history to the micro-aggressions that happen daily & also how to best see this in a way to help others understand how to make people aware of it. I am also not going to blame a certain orange kool-aid man-baby in the white house as this is something bigger than him & started eons ago, although he doesn't help. Having the knowledge & ability to get her point across is so necessary & incredible at the same time. I wish this were something that was a school requirement to read. So yes go pick up this book & if you buy it give to someone else & have them pass it along. Share the insight so everyone cam learn something.

Written with clarity of voice and a deep well of sociological research, How to Be Less Stupid About Race made me uncomfortable in significant and productive ways. Highly recommended.

This book was a great read and opened my eyes to a lot of truths I wasn’t letting myself see. Highly recommend!

This is just the first of Crystal M. Fleming’s books I’ve read, but I will be reading more. Great evidence facts, and statistics mixed with human and civil rights. A great book to get you started on basic civil rights knowledge. My mind, heart and views have been expanded and my interest in civil rights sparked. Learn about systemic racism and ways to improve and unify our communities.
