DISCLAIMER: This review is written at 12AM so pls don’t hate on me for any mistakes you see lol.
First things first, this series was a ride. At first I was hesitant because the first book had 12 chapters and this one had 18, and I wanted a long read. But honestly this proved I could have that in the form of long, well-written chapters and still be happy, so to say I left satisfied is a major understatement!
In the Afterword, the author said she’d understand if any of her readers felt anger towards how the book ended, and honestly I felt none. I needed many reminders that this book was a dark-romance because I absolutely hated Shay. The ick he gave me everytime he talked and overstepped Mina’s boundary under the guise of care (WHICH WAS 100% OF THE BOOK), just pissed me off. I think the moment that got me so angry out of the whole book (and trust me there are a lot of moments) was how she couldn’t rehab her leg because he couldn’t be with her in the room so she ended up having to do all the exercises at home which left her with a limp.
Just reading that made me so pissed. But it’s moments like that I appreciate the author for putting in because it created another distinct line between the readers and the relationship of the main characters, telling us that this wasn’t love. Usually in dark-romance, behaviors like Shay’s are glorified, romanticized and we all fall to our knees, wondering what we can do to get a guy like that and trust me, YOU DONT WANT A GUY LIKE HIM. This not only showed his selfishness and dependency throughout his relationship but also how the only one benefiting from this forced arrangement was him. Even his father, James, exhibits this by forcing Emily (Mina’s mother) to stay with him because he “loved” her and because Mina’s influence humanized his son.
Which— just to say— I don’t want to hear crap about Mina’s mother!! Stan Emily because she peeped James and Shay’s shit early and tried to protect her daughter from that through means that were always infiltrated.
I kind of wish Mina didn’t have any sympathy for Shay and actually ended him herself but 1) that would’ve been totally uncharacteristic and 2) He was her protector and even though that version of him became majorly distorted throughout the book, to her, he’d always be that thirteen year old who swore to do anything for her when she was seven and just needed a friend.
I do imagine however that the last time she ever visits his grave is in the epilogue. Maybe it’s just me, but I see her just continuing to live her life with Keenan (I LOVE HIM TO PIECES) and her son, maybe even marrying him and just leaves that chapter to rest.
In all, this was a 5/5 for me. It was beautifully written and overall an amazing read.

wow
This one definitely took me for a spin. I felt like I was watching Minas life unfold before my very own eyes. I wanted to cry right along with her . I couldn’t wait for her to get her back bone. Shay closing the last chapter had me all in my feels. But that epilogue was then ending I needed .
