Bewitching, bewildering, and a cerebral somersault. Left me frustrated and totally transported.

I really enjoyed parts of this book but I hated a lot more of it. I found it to be far too long. the “twists” every few chapters became so many that they no longer surprised or interested me, and the ending was very disappointing. I also thought Nick was very unlikeable due to his misogyny, violence, ego, and closed mindedness, and although I found his humiliation via psychological analysis at the final trial very enjoyable, the ending in which he remained unchanged and hurt alison yet again just showed that everything that happened at bourani had very little impact on him. Take all of this with a grain of salt - I think I enjoyed this less because it had been very overhyped to me. overall I would recommend it to someone interested don’t philosophy/psychology because it is very different from anything i’ve read before and made me think about questions I hadn’t thought of before, and I did find parts of it genuinely enjoyable, but I would warn the reader that it is much much longer than it needs to be, and that the experience of reading from nicholas’s perspective ranges from mind numbing to infuriating (if you aren’t a raging misogynist).
