Atmospheric, a bit dark, capitalizing on the folklore of the wood and why some superstitions should be held in wary careful respect to ward off those ugly things that go bump in the night.

There’s a bit of mystery here as the wood cyclically takes on a life of its own. Bridging magic and legends and curses, this starts with Tobias who’s tethered to the forest for unclear reasons except he simply knows he’s a protector. When his new inquisitive “landlord” starts to show up on a regular basis, a very slow burn connection commences. Tobias knows Henry’s just the sort of light that would attract the darkness to take Henry for its own.

So yes, danger lurks, hungrily seeking its next victim, and this is all about sacrifice, renewal, and redemption. If this sounds interesting to you, it’s currently on KU!

Oh, I'm in love. This book was so magical, so otherwordly that it was overflowing with magic. The words were chosen so beautifully that they created a magical, palpable environment I wished to get lost in it. I was practically in the wood with Tobias, walking down with him, smelling the trees, smelling the magic. It felt so comforting, so cozy, reading these magical words, this magical wood. I'm really in love. And it awakened the long-sleeping words inside me. I'm so inspired right now that I could write an entire novel in one week.

3.5*, only because I wish this book were longer and more detailed.

Oh man. I really wanted to love it. There were moments I thought I could love it. But...

What stands out the most in this book is definitely it's lush atmosphere: it's deep, mysterious forest, it's magic, coming from things that grow. I did like that vibe a lot and I liked Tobias's connection to the woods but it seemed to me that the atmosphere was the only well developed thing. Everything else: the romance, the whole plot fell pretty flat to me and I wasn't engaged in any way

I have no words. This novella felt like a green dream, filled with the smell and the sounds of the forest all the while carrying a fairytale-like magic.
The writing is simply wonderful, the story is unique and captivating, and the characters complete this work of art.
I loved every second of reading it and cannot recommend it highly enough.
