Silver in the Woods was super out of my comfort zone. I didn’t look to see how long it was before I started reading it. I was disappointed that it was so short, but, as I’ve never read anything like it before, it ended up being a good thing. I don’t know that it would have kept my interest if it had been much longer. I’m typically a thriller and historical fiction fan, so this was a nice introduction into something more mystical.

The slight romance was such a tease! I wanted more! The romance was honestly what kept me reading. There was so much of this book that I didn’t really understand, probably because I’m not used to reading mystical fantasy, so the romantic undertones were easier for my brain to latch onto.

Tesh is a brilliantly skilled writer. Her words were beautiful to read, the mystery well constructed, and the characters easy to love.

I enjoyed this book enough that I plan to read the sequel, though it’s not at the top of my list to recommend to others. As far as “out of your comfort zone” books go, I’m glad I read this. I probably won’t think about it for years to come, though.

If you’re looking for mysterious fantasy with a Springtime vibe that you can finish very quickly, this book is for you!

This book is really interesting and an enjoyable read. The story of Silver and Finch is a fascinating and exists in a supernatural world I found to be extremely intriguing and fun to read about.
However this book suffers from its length being too short to ever connect to the story or the narrative. The majority of the story is spent without one of the two core characters as they attempt and fail to solve the primary conflict which left me feeling like the genre had changed from the emotional romance of the first half to a poorly written action and adventure novel in which I was disconnected from any of the characters. Unfortunately it felt like Tesh was unwilling to commit to either story.
Just as I was beginning to feel emotionally tied to the blossoming love story it is cut off. The whole novel ends with the love story resolution but then feels like there is no logical reasoning to how we got there.
I enjoyed this book but doubt I will be rereading it or really recommending it to anyone else.

Silver in the Wood feels, to me, like what I could lovingly call druid fiction -- a queer Green Man in a mysterious forest who has become local legend but is very much alive, dryads, fairies, and wise old spirited oaks.  Tesh manages a lot of atmosphere -- you can feel the forest -- in very few pages, and I was left wanting to go barefoot into the wood to find a tree to sit with.  Beautiful.  I will say that I was in some ways more captivated by the world than by the plot, though I really like Tobias Finch as a character.  While I did not love the ending, it also left me wanting more of this world so I immediately bought and started the sequel.  Recommended for lovers of forest lore.

Read this one about a year ago and didn’t really like the ending, but upon revisiting it and knowing what kind of book to expect, I quite enjoyed it this time around. Followed along with the audiobook narrated by Matthew Lloyd Davies, whose voice and narration style was perfect for this book. Overall a lovely little atmospheric novella of the forest and folklore.

Thisn story has a piece of my heart. Wow. What wonderful narrative, what a beautiful story. Even though it is very short, I have so many feeling about these people. I don't even know what to say, just that I loved it.
