The characters are all pretty great, especially one we don't meet until later in the book
(Henry's mother)
. What I loved most though was the plot construction. Even though the content of the story is very different from Tesh’s novel, Some Desperate Glory, the shape of the plot felt familiar, and just like last time, I enjoyed the ride!

The prose is rich, the love story is tender, and the atmosphere is palpable. It feels like you are travelling deeper and deeper into a dense, thriving wood.

Read this one about a year ago and didn’t really like the ending, but upon revisiting it and knowing what kind of book to expect, I quite enjoyed it this time around. Followed along with the audiobook narrated by Matthew Lloyd Davies, whose voice and narration style was perfect for this book. Overall a lovely little atmospheric novella of the forest and folklore.

I adore Tobias and Silver and their relationship. I loved the way the Wood was described. I loved the supernatural creatures and the few side characters.
