A beautiful Green Man retelling/reimagining. It's dark, atmospheric, and lyrical with a sweet m/m romance. "Sweet" doesn't fully describe it; Emily Tesh captures an additional element of profoundly valuing someone and seeing the world differently because of them. I also like how immutable forces like time and kindness act as undercurrents that push the narrative forward.

Lovely, simple story. To me, there’s nothing more compelling than magical realism in the woods. Plus, this story has given me a newfound love for dryads!

Best character was 1000% Pearl the tabby cat, but Tobias was cool too. (:

The lower rating is because this story didn’t really move me or give me much to think about. I love when books linger in my mind for a while, and I just don’t see that happening with this one. Still, it’s a beautiful story and I’m looking forward to reading the second book.

Pleasant little folklorish novella that features some really interesting plant-based magic (I couldn't picture the giant, stoic, long-haired, long-lived forest man as anyone other than Henry Cavill ala The Witcher, which you definitely won't hear me complaining about) and a sweet, very slight m/m romance.

I did think that the writing overall lacked a little something in the way of precision, and it was a little underdeveloped for my taste. I wanted to it lean a little more into something- emotion, plot, atmosphere, darkness, etc. It was gentle and nice and kept my interest, but it never quite got beyond that.

That being said, though, I'd definitely read more from this author!
