Different type of vampire story, twist and the very end.

A little slow moving, but it really packs a punch once it gets rolling. Grisly, visceral, surprising, and I highly recommend the audiobook read by the author for his excellent delivery.

3.5 rounded down for me. I almost put it down for good about a third of the way in, but the anxiety of unfinished business brought me back. I’m glad I finished it. It is well written, good plot once it picks up, the Coda was fantastic. Just lagged a lot in the beginning for me. Wasn’t sure I cared about the characters. I still don’t particularly care about the characters. But I liked the end.

Woof. The ending is depressing but still good!

It is a 4 star book, but the ick makes it a 3 star for me.

Vampires + unreliable narrator = win.

Look, I understand that Joey is in his 70's and locked into the body of a 14 yr old. I still didn't like the idea of him being sexual. *shrug* In vampire lore, typically your mind stays the age it is when you are made. It's not addressed in this book - but it still gave me the icks.

Except for that, I really enjoyed the book.

This was a really fun and creepy vampire book set in 1970s new York. I love a good unreliable narrator and this definitely delivered. I teetered between 4 and 5 stars throughout this story and what ultimately what decided it was the ending.
I felt the twist ending was unnecessary and didn't really add much to the story, if anything it took away from the story. Others loved it though so don't let this book deter you. I still had a blast reading this and highly recommend the audiobook.

It's been almost 2 years since I read this book and I still think about that last chapter. Like, I almost want to give it another star.
