5⭐️ Cutest jock/nerd romance ever. It was light-hearted, low-angst, syrupy sweet, and wholesome without being cheesy or over-the-top. Just a simple, charming comfort read. Loved it.

Cobey and Vincent

PLEASE be aware that this review is meant for my own purposes only in order to help me recall this book and is in no way a reflection of what I think anyone else will like or want out of a book. It is simply a memory aid and a rough voice-to-text which is completely unedited/reviewed for errors. Read at your own discretion.

When star sophomore football player, Cobey‘s parents make him live in the dorms. He is not happy about having a roommate. His roommate is Vincent, a sophomore, data analytics genius and socially awkward nerd. Cobey is the golden boy who is also super sweet and Vincent has the sad childhood history and almost no friends. Cobey decides to help Vincent learn how to be social and in exchange, Vincent will help him pass his calculus class. Of course, once they kiss things progress from there. They fall for each other. This is a really sweet story with the classic trope of the jock and nerd. Both characters are extremely likable.

Very low angst, sweet college romance between roommates. A bit forgettable, but enjoyed the lack of conflict and drama in this. Also would be so nice to live in this idealistic world with the college culture there where being queer isn't a big deal. Good for them. I also want to go to a bar named 'shenanigans.'

DID NOT FINISH

DNF ~25%

Honestly, I just shouldn't have even attempted this one. I am very much not into the nerd/jock trope, and this leans into it hard. Beyond that, I thought Cobey was too perfect to the point where I was rolling my eyes every time he was on the page. Gorgeous, popular, athletic, kind, *super* self-aware, publicly out, etc. etc. and he's only nineteen! He did not feel like an actual person. And then Vincent was a little too cringingly self-deprecating, which felt slightly more realistic, except for the fact that he's supposedly super hot but doesn't know it? Y'all, I've *never* met a hot person who doesn't know it, except for every single one in every book I've ever read... But also, I felt like the author didn't quite know what she wanted from him, and he felt a little uneven in terms of characterization. Basically I was predisposed to dislike this one based on the trope, and then the execution was the nail in the coffin. This series has been such a bust, which again, I think it probably largely just that the college-age content isn't for me, but I've definitely read/loved college books before, so some of the blame's gotta be on execution...

i don't know about this one honestly. it was fun at the beginning but as it went it kinda lost me. i liked the characters fine, which is probably the only reason i finished this book in the first place.

my biggest issue was the pacing because every good scene ends within 2 paragraphs or there is just a fast forward, but then we get few chapters dedicated to the same routine and the same conversations they have on the cafeteria-room-library route.

also, i don't know if that's just how american college football star life is but why does everyone care so much about vincent dating cobey

[3.4~3.5 - should probably round down but i’ve also reached acceptance that my ratings for this series are out of whack soooo

Sweet roommate tutor/jock vibes, kind of friends with benefits into more. Vincent was so cute and sweet with all the blushing. And Cobey was the sweetest golden retriever jock there ever was.
