Thank you to Second Story Press for the eGalley to review!
This was a beautiful picture book celebrating the history of beading within indigenous communities and why they continue to do it. The art style reminds me so much of a friend of mine's, so I might be a bit biased toward it, but it really shows off how beautiful beadwork can be! The structure of the writing is also easy to follow along with for younger readers.
I think this would be a wonderful addition to any collection educating about and celebrating indigenous cultures, particularly Cree and Anishinaabe. Beadwork is not just art, it tells stories about who the person doing the beadwork was/is--something very important, especially in trying to preserve a culture. While this is obviously not an in-depth historical look at the medium, it's certainly a great introductory for kids!
