I just want to give Jennette a hug :( Her tell-all memoir strikes the balance between absurdly hilarious and horrifically sad, exploring her complicated relationship with her mother, her body, and fame. The short chapters and shocking content makes I'm Glad My Mom Died an easy page-turner (or engrossing audiobook, which is read by McCurdy herself). Moreover, Jennette’s frank and brusque voice establishes her work as an important case study of the effects of narcissistic abuse and child stardom. Her truth, her story, is so eye-opening, it will leave its mark on the reader and maybe even the entertainment industry as a whole. An important, if uncomfortable, read.

Listening to Jennette read her audiobook made the book more raw and heartbreaking. A life story that definitely needed to be told and it goes to show you never know what’s happening behind closed doors.

I don't want to rate Jennette’s life in that sense, but the book itself was very well written. It gave me a big insight into harrowing child acting and codependent relationships can be.
