Overall, very smart and effective writing that kept me interested and rooting for Jennette to leave the industry from the start. I hope she continues writing because not only is she very talented, she wants to be putting these words on the page. It’s about time her voice, and hers alone, shines.

It’s honest, raw and emotional whim also being really funny. The audiobook performance by Jenette McCurdy is incredible, I felt like she was just telling me how it was for her, it didn’t feel like listening to a memoir.
I’d definitely recommend the audiobook but check trigger warnings before you read - Jenette had a hard start in life and didnt pull any punches sharing that in this book!

Her mother had cancer from when Jennette was 2yo, she didn’t want to act but did for her mother. Her mother was abusive and a narcissist. She put a lot of pressure on Net and even pushed eating disorders to stunt her growth.. (something Jennette thought was in her favour and not something that was unsafe or wrong) which she still struggles with. Among other things Net’s life wasn’t what she wanted nor did she see a way out but to do it for her mother. She got help after her mother died through trial and error and is now doing well and what she loves and wanted to do all along.. writing. Im so glad she did because this book has opened my eyes and made me realise things I didn’t know before.
Sad, dark, tense, emotional, heartbreaking, thought provoking, inspiring, challenging and reflective. I applaud Jennette for sharing her truth!

However, the hilarity was NOT in the room with us. I don’t think there was a lot of humor in this book like the blurb says, but it was still a very good read.
