Such an incredible collection of short stories! Stand outs for me were Be Not Afraid by Ashia Monet and Mother, Daughter, and the Devil by Donyae Coles. All the stories were great but these two were such gripping reads, evocative language and truly embracing plot. Gonna be checking out these authors further definitely.

Great horror anthology. The short stories showcase different takes on the genre, which I enjoyed. Five of the featured authors were new to me, and I'll probably look into their other work!

This was an interesting collection of short stories many of them I really loved and others I wanted more from.
My ranking of each one:
Lights- Kaylnn Bayron 4 stars
This story was a perfect introduction to the anthology, creating a suspenseful and off-kilter atmosphere that follows many of the other stories. Also loved the twist.
Be Not Afraid- Ashia Monet 4.5 stars
This was the stand out story for me. The writing was beautiful, mysterious, and otherworldly. It didn’t take me long to get sucked into the world of this story.
All My Best Friends are Dead- Liselle Sambury 4 stars
I really liked this one. Similar to the initial start of the anthology it puts you into a scenario where you think you know what will happen.
The Teeth Come Out At Night- Sami Ellis 3.75 stars
I might be in the minority but I adored this story and I loved the gore. My only complaint is that it just drops off and I feel as though there could’ve been a bit more resolution or attention to the end.
I Love Your Eyes- Joel Rochester 3 stars
The beginning was great. It set the tone of the story very well and I was definitely intrigued by the two characters’ relationship. Even more so when we get to the middle of the story. I thought the author was constructing or deconstructing an emotionally abusive relationship through the lens of horror. However, it didn’t exactly pan out that way. The end felt almost completely out of left field and disrupted the flow of the beginning and middle. It felt a bit cliched.
The Consumption of Vienna Montrose- Joelle Wellington 2.5 stars
While I think the idea of the story was very interesting, the writing style pulled me out of the story quite a bit.
The Landscape of Broken Things- Brent Lambert 2.5 stars
While not bad, I don’t think this story fit in this anthology. It’s not really horror like the others so it sticks out. I will say outside of this anthology, it’s a decent standalone story about time.
Mother, Daughter, The Devil- Donyae Coles 4.25 stars
Another standout story for me. I loved the writing, the tension, the atmosphere, and the characters. Much like Be Not Afraid, this story focuses on The Other though this one in a more realistic sense. I loved the cross between fantasy and realism. I will also mention there should be a content warning for implied SA.
Papa Pearlie- Ryan Douglass 2.5 stars
I really wanted to like this story. In fact, the beginning pulled me into the story and then following inciting incident only made me even more engaged. However, the end fell a bit flat for me.
No Harm Done- Circe Moskowitz 3 stars
Was a very intriguing and moving story. I thought it was a perfect end to the anthology. I definitely wasn’t expecting the twist. But like the previous story, the ending fell a bit flat.
