Took me a bit to get in to and totally remember what had happened in the last two but looking forward to the conclusion
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, however it’s easily my least favourite of the three so far. I felt like it could have been a novella and that would have been much better. HOWEVER it was still a wonderful read filled with magic, whimsy and tension. Also THE END HAS SENT ME FOR A LOOP AND IM SO MAD I HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE NEXT BOOK
WORLDBUILDING
we get a lot more minute details about this magical world in this novel. Instead of taking place in New Orleans, this novel focuses on the the magic side of the story. I loved the inclusion of the wisps since they’ve always been my one of my favourite elements of folklore.
PLOT
The first half of this novel wasn’t very plot heavy, it really picks up I. The second half. I understand why most of the story revolves around Pipa and Arjun, however since his initial goal was to find a healer for Odette I didn’t like how this got pushed so far to the side and how we didn’t see any resolution here. I did however love the forced marriage trope and how it played out with our two main characters
CHARACTERS
This is hard for me because in the other two books Pippa was my least favourite character, but this novel gives more background to her character and I grew to love and appreciate her for her loyalty. What threw me for a ride was Celines character because good lord she pissed me off in this book, and previously I loved her. Ok this one she was just so arrogant and blinded by her own perceptions that I found her nearly intolerable.
Bastien and Arjun were wonderful as always, I love Arjuns witty comebacks, always adding some humour.
I wish we got to see more of the supporting cast in this novel since I really enjoyed them but again, I see why we couldn’t.
Finally, Michael. All I have to say is that a part of me wouldn’t be sad if he does in the final novel. Sorry not sorry
Overall a fun read, I just think it could have been shorter
