I can’t say I’m a a fan of the series. The writing can be a bit choppy. And the plot has been a little repetitive. The main character and her love interest are exhausting. They annoy me so much! But Pippa and Arjun completely give the book more excitement. I’ll finish the series just for them.

3 1/12 stars. i’m not sure why i assumed this was the final book, but getting three quarters of the way through and realizing it wasn’t going to have a satisfying conclusion was disappointing. despite my mistaken assumption and the ensuing disappointment, this book was enjoyable. it’s definitely a bridge book in the series -new challenges arise, and nothing is resolved- but the characters are engaging and the story interesting. i enjoyed the focus on “periphery” characters in this book. the main characters from previous books still appear, but in a much smaller capacity, and i really appreciated getting to know a few “lesser” characters from previous books better in this one.

This was a slow starter for me, but then it eventually got going. I didn't love the shift to Pippa as the main focus. Her dedication to doing things her way was so obnoxious to the point of excessive danger. However, the story revealed more about what's going on in the Vale, which was interesting, and there were some unsettling moments with Celine and Sebastian. Arjun was probably the best part, as we learned more about his background and what it means to be ethereal. I'm curious to see where the story will go next.

I didn't think I would enjoy this book as much as I did the first. The Damned (2nd book) I gave 4 stars cause it was lacking something. The Righteous brought it back with Arjun and Pippa. I love their interactions and seeing what their relationship blossoms into. The small bit we peeped in The Beautiful (1st book) was a tease. I did not think we would get a whole book for their story. Honestly with the way Celine was irking me, Pippa was a breath of fresh air.
Now Celine... I hope she sees the truth!! I wasn't feeling her mother at all when she came into the scene. So I'm anxious to see what happens next in the last book. I'm lowkey sad to be close to the end. I love this author's work. And speaking of her work... MAJOR SPOILER AHEAD... Ali being the sone of Khalid and Shahrzad from her other book The Wrath and the Dawn was the biggest surprise! Mind you, I haven't read that duopoly in years! So when he says to Celine "I am the first born son of Khalid..." I'm like why are those name familiar to me? I look at my bookshelf and it just clicked!! But why is he stuck in time? In another world?! How in the world did he get there?!?!! This along with the drama that was happening at the end is what solidified this book as a great read for me. It's well written story telling, diverse characters and mythical fantasy have me ready to read the next book.

Why is everyone in this book so stupid? Arjun, pippa and bastien are the only three characters I don’t want to hit in the head with a shovel. Celine gets more stupid by the book in pursuit of her belief she is a smart and independent woman (spoiler: she is not, she gets manipulated at every turn and managed to make the most unbelievably idiotic choices I’ve ever read from a ya protagonist). Michael deserves to die a painful death by virtue of being both annoying AND boring. Truly an even worse version of Jacob black from twilight.
All in all I enjoyed my time reading this book and I will be reading the fourth and last book in the series, simply because I want Arjun and pippa to have an happy ending after having to endure being surrounded by idiots.
