THIS BOOK IS CAMP!!! 1🌸

I feel bad for hating/ridiculing this book b/c the content is heavy and the Note from the author is genuinely moving…but:
  • the protagonist is a florist
  • the onesie party
  • THE ELLEN DEGENERES DIARIES 😭

Would it kill Colleen Hoover to give a character a normal name?
  • lily blooming bloom
  • Ryle Kincaid
  • Atlas corrigan
  • Dory!?

Okay. Since we’re on the subject… the first guy I ever had sex with was homeless.

Ellen, I am confident that the next sentence I am about to write has never been written or spoken aloud before.
When he was wiping that cow shit on me, it was quite possibly the most turned-on I have ever been.

Now go get my baby and take her away from here so I can have some sex with my filthy rich husband.

TLDR: my Colleen Hoover curiosity ends with this book.

I read this as my book to get back into reading after being unable to finish another popular recommended one. I did not like this. The trope, the repeating of history and the "love". It felt so forced and just like it was okay and fine when it's not. It could've really been a powerful, woman overcoming a bad situation, but not really.

 Thanks, I hated it! 🙂

But not because it’s a bad book per say. It was an incredibly frustrating book in the sense that it was realistic and also terrifying while being completely helpless to stop the decisions of the characters. I am quite grateful for the author's afterword which helped me process some of the decisions made that had me screaming “RUN”. But I did spend 95% of this book in a blind rage and as a result it has made me hesitant to check out more of Colleen’s work.

ONE THING. One thing I cannot forgive is this: if you’re going to write softcore porn you cannot skip foreplay. The readers of the day, no matter their genitalia or gender identity, need to be made aware that foreplay is non-negotiable, especially if one or more has a vulva. I will die on this hill

A vast majority of my review is chock-a-block full of spoilers because I need to release this rage somehow so check that out below the cut if you fancy.

I cannot think of a character I have hated the way I vehemently despise Rile. What a horrific human being. For the simple fact of he KNEW, he knew he had blackouts, he knew he did things when he was angry, and he lied. He gaslighted Lily to heaven and back and he refused to access treatment or help. He obviously knew this was an issue before her, during their dating period, and during their marriage. Now I understand if he’d fixed it perhaps we wouldn’t have gotten a book but decisions could have been made after the first or second incident.  And this is why this book is so hard for me to rate because I despise this super present character, I had to deal with them for a majority of the book and the hate is so intense. He is so fucking vile I cannot think straight.
