Absolutely heartbreaking book. The whole read was a rollercoaster of emotions that I wasn’t prepared for in the slightest.

I was extremely disappointed with this story. It 97% felt like romanticizing abuse.  Once again, I followed the hype and felt that maybe my feelings were because I'm not the target audience. Or do I know too much? I am unsure how this is one of the more popular colleen hoover books.

Colleen does a good job of expressing the emotions and conflicting thoughts in the presence of abuse and growing through the trauma but I could not keep reading it. The character Ryle from the get-go made me feel uneasy. Didn’t like how in the beginning he would just pop in and out of the picture. Further reading made me dislike him even more. Couldn’t stomach the apologies and abuse.

This book tells us the story of Lily, her present with Ryle, and through journal entries, her past with Atlas.

I was surprised that it was such a fast-reading experience. The way the author writes makes it impossible to stop reading.

As for the characters, I liked them. They were complex enough to carry the plot forward, and they have both good and bad things.

What I did not completely like about the story was the romance with Ryle, I never saw what make Lily fall in love with him. On the other hand, it was very easy to love Atlas.

Overall, it was a good read, more emotional than I expected. The closing notes about the author's personal experience were a nice touch.

TW: Domestic abuse, Physical abuse
