I'm not very used to sci-fi books and reading other reviews I realized this is not a common story about.
I heard it in audiobook format and I think that helped a lot in my way to finish it bc I agree too that is a little bit slow in parts and is not full of adventures but I really enjoy it, anyway.

This is an imperfect book—rough and incomplete characterization and dense passages of political and scientific thought. But it captures the tensions and complexity between two ideas incredibly well, and doesn’t try for a false resolution.
Also, apparently I’m developing an interest in translated sci fi from authoritarian countries. Cixin Liu and Hao Jingfang’s writing shares a lot of characteristics, and I’m curious if that’s a function of their writing or Ken Liu’s translation. Having read Ken’s English short stories, I doubt that’s the case, but the mark of translation was pretty unmistakable here, and I want to know what characteristics are due to cultural differences in narrative and which are just part of translation difficulties.

Fans of Ursula Le Guin will definitely enjoy this book! Very interesting concept but the narrative sometimes felt a bit stilted, which took away from the overall rating.
