If I have to read the word "bullspit" ever again in my life, it'll be too soon. Please, author.. You could have just used the word 'fuck' and all would have been well. You don't need to invent curse words, especially ones that sound that ridiculous. Then for the love of god, you don't need to repeat it multiple times in every chapter. I lost count at 23 times.

This was a good story and I want to hear more about what happens, but I really can't deal with the heroine's stupid choices and bullspit.

I love the characters and the premise. I didn't know it was a series at first (it was recommended to me as a book, not a series) and was wondering how it would quickly wrap up towards the end but luckily it's a trilogy so I get more of this awesome read. I feel horrible for Soran and all he has suffered. I get he did wrong but it wasn't a vindictive horrible person thing it was just a naive person thing. I get he needed punishment because it had bad consequences but I think it would have been better to find a way to destroy the villain. I have to wonder about the villain though because of the mysterious woman...ugggh so frustrating because anything I say will give it away! I cannot wait to read more to find the answers to the questions I still have.

I don't know where to start with this. As I'm sitting here looking back on everything I just read I'm starting to think I didn't enjoy this book as much as I thought I did. I love the author, I swear, I do. The Venatrix Chronicles is one of the greatest series’ I've ever read. I'm so confused as to why I downright dislike this.

I absolutely can not stand the way Nelle spoke; her trying too hard to be from the poor side of the tracks, shitty accent. The sheer number of times the word bullspit was used… Or Boggart for that matter, drove me batty and I eventually started blocking out all the “Oi''s and “Ain't"s. I understand where the character came from, I understand that this is probably how they talk in that area, but it didn't come off as genuine. It came off as trying too hard, and really fake to me and it was ruining my perception of the character. On the subject of Nelle, I hate that we hardly went into her family's back story, I feel like the book was long enough that we should have been able to get a little more background on it all. I want to know more. More of what happened to her mom, maybe more of her training as a thief? Maybe even more into what makes her such a skilled thief. Maybe even a little more background on her relationship with Sam. Because I hardly felt  that betrayal. It just ended up being another sentence on the page.
AND the way that she calls Soren “Sir” rubs me the wrong way too! Its doesnt come off cute or romantic, it comes off like she's way younger than him, and maybe employed by him. I know it's a slow burn, but I also know eventually they're going to be a couple, and that thought is giving me the yucks right now.

I found Soren to have pretty close to zero character, again, maybe that's how he's supposed to come off, but he bored me. He felt more made of stone than he did “beast”.

The idea of the Thorn Maiden is amazing, nightmares in the waking world is a story I can get behind big time. That's probably what I'm holding onto in this story, is what could be, and hopefully what is coming.
Maybe the writing style isn't for me? Maybe these characters are just not for me. I'm not sure what’s happening, but this book just isn't bringing me all that much joy.

This book tries to be deep and mysterious but in actually is just an info dump at beginning and end, with filler in the middle. I understand keeping plot points hidden to make the story suspenseful, but this story kept everything hidden until 95% (with more secrets left unsaid). It's clearly setting up the second/third books, but simply isn't a good / compelling enough story for me to continue.

And if I have to read "bullspit" one more time I will scream.

My exploration of fantasy romance continues with this book.

I struggled at the beginning as the motivation for Nelle to set out onto her adventure is her father who is being held at ransom so that she does a dangerous job.

Once we got to the main part of the story I got immersed into this world that was very nicely kept in-between, with many mysteries still to be revealed and a rather scary adversary.
