mixed feelings about this one. i loved white teeth, but like this one it took me a bit to get into it. stylistically the first part of this drove me crazy, the second part is what kept me going, and then of course i felt i had to get to the end. the way the section "host" was done was excellent to me, but that's in part because i enjoyed how it tracked alongside cultural events.

the style is really not for me. it's hard to follow and just feels like random strings of words. probably has a good message and focuses on important topics but I simply can't push through

The writing is impressive, each part/perspective is written in its own style, has different chapter lenghts and covers different timeframes. I found this way of storytelling very unique and refreshing and the content of the book does feel very real and "slice of life" like and there are some interesting and thought provoking observations about modern life in London/the big city. Unfortunately the different parts and their different styles didnt all work for me. The first two parts (Leah and Felix) worked for me and were engaging. The third part (Keisha/Natalie)didn't really catch me (which is a shame because it's the longest part) . I don't know if it didn't catch me because Natalie's character didn't connect with me or if it is because of the very short, sometimes very random/vague feeling chapters. Also the book didn't have a strong overarching plot and I guess I just prefer books that do follow a strong plotline. Overall it was a unique reading experience, but one that I don't know what to take away from.
