This was the funniest and more tense volume yet.
The latter half of this volume is around where the anime ended, so I am extra excited to read the next one.

With the Nessie-alien-mantis shrimp monster crumbling into dust, the gang deals with the consequences of suddenly appearing soaked in your underwear in the middle of the day in high school, and Okarun has a revelation about what the presence of yokai and aliens on Earth could imply. Momo gets an unexpected visit from a childhood friend, which throws Okarun for a loop and causes a distraction at school - good thing he can also see spirits (including the possessed anatomy mannequin who comes alive to wreak havoc, and who may have Okarun's other ball). We leave on the cusp of disaster as Momo, Okarun, and Jiji return to Jiji's village to deal with the spirit allegedly haunting Jiji's home and sickening his parents.

This was a fun installment that feels like a prelude to something bigger, and I liked getting a slower look back into the high school dynamics and the introduction of a new character (or challenger, if you're Okarun). I think the relationship development and high school crushes are pretty cute between all the aliens and spirits, and I like that instead of being purely good or purely evil, we get a chance to develop some feeling for the spirits and their circumstances. I am really settling in with this manga and can't wait to see what horrors are lurking around the corner in the next volume!

Another volume of Dandadan that hits it out of the park with it’s total weirdness, coolness, and emotional punches. The attack on the school concludes with them taking out the serpoians and taking in the punchy crab boy who was simply trying to bring money back for his sick kid. Turns out his race’s blood is actually just milk, so the crew gives him a cow and he flies off in a clear ripoff of the Millenium Falcon. What a happy ending. We then meet a childhood friend of the girl who makes the silliest and funniest faces and actions yet, he’s a total goofball and a welcome addition to the cast who is very likeable to everyone even though he’s a potential romantic rival for Kenta. He also comes with a very scary looking monster that haunts him and keeps him from sleeping. It was grotesque and makes me so uncomfortable and a little frightened. The volume ends with them going back to his home to try and deal with it. Before that though there is a wild whirlwind of a lovestory between two anatomy mannequins from different schools, one of which they mistake for having a golden ball when in fact its just a christmas ornament to entice the lady mannequin, who stays up all night for her man to visit. I was cracking up the whole time. I just can’t believe how good this series is. A total favorite of mine from all out there.
