Unfamiliar by Haley Newsome is a cute YA paranormal fantasy graphic novel, the first volume of a series originally published as a Tapas webcomic. The ebook version is 160 pages.

A young kitchen witch named Planchette bought a new house in a magical town in a great deal! However, she soon finds out that the reason it was such a steal is because it is haunted. In order to clear out the ghosts, she befriends a shy siren, a girl with a curse, and a witch from a powerful coven who appears to be magically-challenged.

This was a super cute graphic novel! The artwork is quirky and the artist makes good use of color here. If you like whimsical paranormal stories, you should absolutely check this out. This is only Volume 1 so don't expect this to be a complete story yet.

As the title suggests, each witch has a delightful familiar. Each character here is very unique and I'm very excited to read more about them in the next volume.

I received an e-galley of this book for review. All opinions contained herein are my own. Unfamiliar releases on Tuesday, December 6, 2022.

3.5 stars for me. Adorable and very sweet. I enjoyed this graphic novel, but not enough to continue on to the next volume.

I don’t remember where I saw this book initially but I requested it from my library and it didn’t disappoint. This was a cute read about a kitchen witch (how stinkin cute) who bought a haunted house by accident and needs help to get rid of the ghosts. She meets some new friends who also have their issues and aren’t the best witches or even a witch at all but they band together and become unlikely friends. I love their familiars ahha, they all had their own little personalities. The artwork in the graphic novel was so adorable and colourful and I loved it.
The only thing that I didn’t like was I did feel like the story jumped around a bit with no rhyme or reason and it ended abruptly. So I did request book two as fast and my fingers would type haha.
Overall it was a super cute read about friendships and I would recommend it to everyone.
