3/5!

I don’t think it’s as bad as people think it is. Although it did take me awhile to finish this book and really get into it. I can definitely agree world-building was a big flaw in this book and it took me forever to finally understand the difference between spellwalker, celestial, specters etc. It really felt like we were thrown into a story about a world we should already know about and it didn’t do a lot to help us understand it. Although I HATE books with a lot of setup, it bores me and I don’t find it always flows naturally, but this book could’ve used some.

I personally love Adam Silvera’s past books and although I don’t believe this one is AS good as his others, it does have its own charm. I liked the characters, their actions make sense to what we know about them, and I believe character development can be a big part of the series farther down the line. (Hopefully, some characters really made me annoyed) I do find Emil very similar to Adam Silvera’s other protagonists, which is a bit repetitive, so I honestly preferred the switching perspectives (Ness is the best character).

I loved how much it focused on the bond of Brighton and Emil and how it progressed throughout the book. I didn’t see the plot-twists coming
and thought they were cool, but maybe I’m just not very good at predicting these things.

Overall I enjoyed it, I thought it was a fun read, with of course, angst as you’d expect from Adam Silvera. I will definitely continue the series. I would recommend it and believe everyone should give this book a try and forge their own opinion, despite its harsh reviews! BUT if world building is important to you, I would say you might want to pass on this one.

Adequate world building. Interesting characters and conundrums. I'll likely check out the next book in the series.

They Both Die At The End is in my top 25 of all books (out of easily 2,000 books read).

That book also introduced me to a genre (boy loves boy YA) that I subsequently devoured.

I also greatly enjoyed History is All You Left Me With and What If It’s Us.

This, though,

I think Adam Silvera is a good writer, but this was not a good book. There was literally no world building, but there are about fifty different types of special things that never get explained, Brighton spends the entire book being a selfish jerk, there were so many POVs, it was just...oh Adam. Not a good book.

Otro libro de Adam Silvera que me encantó, la fantasía y el mundo de Infinity Son es muy bueno, la relación de Emil y Brighton me gustó mucho porque es un amor de hermanos muy relatable y el final me dejó SHOCKEADA

I don't understand the hate for this book. I enjoyed the characters and story line. I thought it was well written, conveyed what it was aimed to convey in a clear way. I would recommend to any one that likes contemporary fantasy with lots of twists and turns.
