I usually don't enjoy mysterys but this book did it for me! The pace was slower than I prefer, but it kicked up enough that it kept me on its hook.

The characters were fun, their motivations unique. The world building of the City of Sin is unlike anything I've seen before. The world felt so alive it was as if it was breathing off the page.

The intense focus on the talents and their hereditary nature is frustrating, and I'm having trouble getting into the story. I don't like either of the main characters.

A very exciting book with an intriguing,  diverse, and morally grey cast of characters. A unique take on a magic-based world that felt incredibly real. Can’t wait to dive into the sequel!

I really liked this book but there is something holding me back from giving it 5 stars. The start is pretty slow and the first 100 pages are nothing special but after that the action just keepins going and becomes more and more exciting. I liked how the relationships between characters evolved through the book but I feel like they are a bit too hurried. Overall the book was great, the world, the plot and the characters are well constructed. I will read the other two books from the trylogy for sure.
