I really liked this book but there is something holding me back from giving it 5 stars. The start is pretty slow and the first 100 pages are nothing special but after that the action just keepins going and becomes more and more exciting. I liked how the relationships between characters evolved through the book but I feel like they are a bit too hurried. Overall the book was great, the world, the plot and the characters are well constructed. I will read the other two books from the trylogy for sure.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I think that the world was super interesting and the search for Lourdes was a great way to introduce many different aspects of the city. Having said that, I think there were some instances of overly flowery language that felt a little forced, and the pseudo-romantic relationship evolved far too quickly. The world was great, but the secondary characters weren't nearly as developed as they should have been. I hope that gets rectified in the rest of the trilogy.

One thing that I don't know if I will ever get over, however, is the use of 'mucking' as a swear word. It took me out of the book every time.
