In this book, Angel put so much into words that I've been struggling to verbalize. Her analysis is sharp as fuck. She doesn't offer much in the way of conclusions and solutions, but she does raise a lot of important points about how many of the dominant discourses around sex (and female sexuality in particular) are simplistic, reductionistic, problematic and don't really solve what they claim to solve. You could argue that the central conclusion of this book is "I see what you're trying to do here, but it's more complicated than that." This is an aspect of this book many undoubtedly would find frustrating. Personally I loved this, the space it gives me to just breathe and accept the messiness of it all. Human sexuality isn't neat and straight-forward, and pretending it is isn't going to get us very far.
This book did however make me very keen on reading more of Angels work. Her nuanced "embrace the mess" approach makes me think she could prove to be a very useful partner in intellectual explorations of more subjects than what is discussed in this book. The kind of author who models how to think well, not just what one should think.

Just out here trying to deconstruct all the negative beliefs about sex and women that are embedded in my subconscious ✌
