This is definitely the weakest Discworld book I've read so far. It certainly isn't bad. It just feels like it's teetering on the edge of being brilliant.

I'm probably going to be taken out the back and shot for this, but I really don't like Granny Weatherwax.

I much preferred Esk and I was hoping the book would Be more focused on her. From what I can tell the rest of the witches collection isnt based in her at all and it's all about Granny.

I did like the overall message. I liked how sexism is addressed very directly. If I was a young girl (I say at a 20-something-year-old man) I feel it would have influenced me in a great way.

UPDATE AFTER 07/23 REREAD: I see my review here, so I know I've read it. And this book has the passage about goat names, which I definitely remember but my mind had transplanted to one of the early Tiffany Aching books. I just don't remember much of the rest of it.

Equal Rites is where Terry Pratchett started trying to move beyond being "just" funny (being funny is a lot harder than a lot of writers think) and into Saying Something Serious™️. But he wasn't, IMO, very good at it yet.

ORIGINAL REVIEW:

Silly and fun. Not as good as others I've read, but entertaining, and I can always use some Granny Weatherwax in my life.
