Struggling with rating this book. It was moreso a SCIENCE fiction than a sci-fi.
Once we met Rocky things picked up and I was much more invested. After some thought, I don’t love how things ended. Yes it was a happy ending, for everyone. But it just felt, wrong? Off?
I don’t know. I’m leaning towards 3.75/5 because it is a well written book, I’m just not partial to science fiction books. It’s not what I gravitate to.

If you are looking for a heavily science book with unique characters and plenty of space travel this is the book for you.

Brainiac. Time. Curveball.

This was a deliciously fun sci fi tale. VERY hard fiction with some serious descriptions of mathematical and scientific know-how. Over information is one thing that makes this book unable to cross over the 4 star rating. Its too much sometimes, but not enough to.stop my brain from being curious. I feel smarter after reading it, but I also was reminded of middle school science class days - just dont give a damn sometimes! Fun with a veil of simplistic plot turns, the details are complicated and grab you. Characters are interesting to say the least. Smart book, indeed. A big nod to real space Travellers!

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

In Project Hail Mary, Andy Weir crafts a desperate deep-space odyssey that feels both profoundly lonely and profoundly human. At its core, this is the archetypal “one man to save the world” narrative, but with a twist of irony… the sole survivor of the mission doesn’t even remember his own name. Through fragmented flashbacks, we discover the truth: this is a suicide mission, and our narrator is not a hardened astronaut or military hero, but a fairly ordinary middle school science teacher (who, inexplicably, also happens to have a six-pack). He is no selfless volunteer, but a reluctant conscript forced into space against his will. Ryland Grace begins as a coward, an outsider whose bruised ego and instinct for self-preservation define him. Yet, through the crucible of survival and the companionship of an unlikely friend, Rocky, we witness the transformation of that coward into a hero. What makes this tale remarkable is not just the rediscovery of Grace’s identity, but his discovery of courage, loyalty, and ultimately, a new sense of belonging—not on Earth, but on Erid.

…But let’s be real. This might be Ryland’s story, but the true star, the real protagonist, the reason this book is AMAZE! AMAZE! AMAZE! (*jazz hands*) is Rocky. Rocky is EVERYTHING. Rocky is the beating heart of this story. He’s hilarious, endearing, brilliant, and somehow manages to be both grumpy uncle and emotional support alien rolled into one. He made me laugh out loud, he made me cry, and he gave me all the warm, fuzzy feelings I didn’t even know I needed from a sci-fi novel.

This story is spectacular: imaginative, witty, emotionally stirring, and surprisingly tender. Five shining stars.
