4.2 AVERAGE

2.9/5 stars

This one may have not been for me, or maybe I’ll like it LATER in my Cosmere journey on a reread.

I hated this book when it started. Not knowing anything about the world or Nomad, along with the idea that Nomad has jumped to this world (meaning the world means nothing to him at first)…it made me not care at all.

UNTIL, it is revealed who Nomad is. Cool as hell!!
But then you realize, “wait, how?”.

This book is a huge jump in time in terms of the Cosmere, where suddenly we are in the space age. Stormlight and Mistborn Era 2 do an excellent job of building an industrial age. However, with this book we are suddenly here.
SO many things have happened to the protagonist, that I feel like reading this book in general was spoilers for Stormlight 5, and I hated that feeling.

Yet, Brandon WANTS you to read this BEFORE Stormlight 5? This makes no sense. (He also wants you to start with Tress so I don’t trust his suggestions anymore).

Anyway, my engagement surged with Nomad’s identity revealed, but then tanked when a majority of the middle of this book is all on how to build a ship properly. I really loved learning about the characters in this book, such as the progress of Elegy and the history of the Threnodite immigration. However, for some reason it took a backseat to the science of it all. Maybe some people are into that, I was not.

I got what I wanted in the last hundred pages or so. Grand character moments, and world building ATTACHED to those moments (like classic Sanderson!). All great. Yet, even so, it feels like we got a climax about Nomad without even having the context of his initial stuggles. Why did he take the Dawnshard? Why did he break his oaths? Why did he join a second order? All these questions remain unanswered. Therefore, I wasn’t as attached to the changes in Nomad at the end of the book.

Overall, objectively this is a ok book. You have to admit that Sanderson’s plot planning is impressive if he knows what’s going to happen this far into the future with his universe. However, Let me come back to it when the space age is being built up (or maybe even after WaT?), hopefully I’ll enjoy it more.

Another Cosmere addition crushed. Love Nomad/Zellion, the bad-good boy but was totally crushed by Aux. why? Just why?

Rebeke and Elegy are definitely going to show up again. I can feel it. Nomad is tied to Canticle more than any other place he has been in the Cosmere….so far.

Please never stop these stories!!

READ THIS AFTER WIND AND TRUTH WHY DO PEOPLE RECOMMEND BEFORE JESUS CHRIST

Least fave so far. Too sci-fi for my bones. Gave me lots of cosmere questions though so I liked that. Wee
