With every chapter, I knew that whatever moral development the characters made in the previous one would be overturned

Some of the writing is really excellent and some of it is very meh. There's a merman in it which was unexpected. I think this book is rated lower than it deserves on here because there's some sex scenes in it that they probably weren't expecting. I definitely would not classify this book as romance or erotica at all.
