This book was complicated. It explored a lot of what it means to be human. It was reflective for sure. It was ugly and it was beautiful. A little weird, but fun too.

A very weird book that I very much enjoyed. If you wanted to like the Midnight Library but didn’t, this is a cheeky look at the Void and what we do to cope.

so sad i didn’t review this after i read it

took me about 9h 48m to read this book

i imagine me reading this as a 22 year old sobbing, clutching it to my chest curled up while Retired From Sad, New Career in Business by Mitsky plays loudly, so distressed i’m not bothered by the hair of mine that was caught on the wall as i slid down.

i read this book and i began to see myself from back then in such a different light. sympathetic but pitiful. i get why i lost all my friends, i guess. the aching desire to not be alone spun me around more than anything else. i did love this book.

when the dog died, i saw the signs coming and i was truly devastated.

This will be a book like nothing you’ve ever read before. Expect to hate the main character, read a lot of sex scenes, and suspend your disbelief when the plot takes a surrealist twist.

Please heed the trigger warnings, but if you think you’re in the right headspace then this is a thought provoking read.

Melissa Broder just solidified herself as my favorite author alive (Rooney is probably second). She is always so raw and ugly in the most realistic sense while sucking you into mentally and sexually disturbed scenarios. Her writing is honest and twisted and relatable and I couldn't find anything better for myself. She's the only author I can read 150+ pgs per sitting, she's incredible.

a very funny read !
i enjoyed everything from the at-times relatable insufferable aspects of the main character, as well as the plot-twist that forces the reader to reflect upon the story at the very end ((:
