Okay I did not expect this but I am completely shaken by this and if it doesn’t hold up I’ll lower my rating but the

I loved Normal People because of the grit of people being morally unjust and just plain shitty and human and the real ass women in this book I just love it no matter how weird part of the concept that’s not even the main part of the book it’s that that helped and didn’t hinder the messages this book sent it’s what I needed and wow!

As one reviewer described it this book is “ mermaid porn”. A little too sexually explicit to grant it 4 Stars. The writing was good and I felt drawn to Lucy who is an emotional mess (but not like A Girl on the Train...emotional mess). Readable, likable despite the explicit bits.

This book was definitely well written; but a lot of reviews said how "laugh-out-loud" funny it was, and really I just found it to be extremely sad.
