First Detective Sargent Logan McRae book. The tale moves from Logans return from the Sick after being stabbed to the discovery of missing children's bodies. The search for suspects digs up a few possible culprits.

Great book with lots of murders and a case the police are trying hard to solve. Will read another one at some point to see how DS Macrae is doing

A pretty good book, took me awhile to get into it, but once I did I enjoyed it.

Oof! Cold Granite was a great read but a tad too grisly for my taste as it involved the abduction and murder of young children. I had to skim a whole bunch of graphic detail and even the stuff I did glean was gruesome. However, I really liked Logan McRae, inspector, ‘fresh back to work’ after being injured while capturing a killer and sustaining multiple stab wounds to the stomach. I enjoyed the tension between McRae and his candy eating boss (although, can one person eat that many candies/sweets daily?!) and his minder ‘ball breaker’ Watson! A couple of lesser characters and plot lines didn’t ring as true for me such as the pathologist and McRae’s ex, Isobel. Stuart MacBride’s depiction of the cold, rainy and dreary Aberdeen seeped through just about every chapter adding to the oppressive mood of the plot. It felt like all the characters were affected by, and had to battle, this added demon. MacBride’s ability to insert touches of humour into the dialogue helped lift the gloom!

It was an interesting thriller but the subject matter of this book was pretty dark and miserable with so much death. There were funny parts sprinkled in that lightened the mood a bit. I did enjoy that it was multiple cases not just one which kept the pacing pretty fast.

I couldn't put this down and had to stop myself from staying up all night finishing it. Enough twists to keep me guessing and interesting characters.
