Sort of enemies to lovers, definitely forbidden romance, definitely grumpy sunshine, somewhat dominant/submissive. Absolutely spicy af. My goodness. I loved the romance in this story.

I kinda knew what I signed up for before I started reading this, but it still caught me by surprise. It is very reminiscent of my Wattpad days as a teen - morally grey/definitely toxic characters who I was only interested in because of the spicy scenes.

Honestly, the book was fine, nothing special. It dragged on towards the end when all of the trauma was revealed through flashbacks and revenge on family members happened. It definitely could have finished like 6 chapters earlier with Ava knowing her self worth and leaving. All that character development went out of the window in the greater scheme of things.

Alex is a controlling and manipulative psychopath who has a highly inflated ego and his internal monologue is just how self important and rich he is. It never failed to make me roll my eyes in disgust. Like dude get a life honestly.

Also the references to very clearly stolen Tumblr posts, pop culture, and frequent immaturity of the the girls in the book was often cringeworthy.

Would I continue the series? Probably. Would I read this book again? No.

I won't lie I read this in like 4ish hours, I was somehow hooked and could not put it down. I would pay attention to the content warnings though.
The book majorly sped up on the last 50%, the first 50% was still good though!

This book does have its issues which I'll try to sum up:
  • Alex is kinda stalkerish and gives off creepy vibes. Even more so in the last 50%
  • The singing scene was... uncomfortable to read.
  • This book is leaning quite heavily on the fact you would read the next one, this can't be read as a stand-alone.
  • At times to me it felt like I was reading a Twilight fanfiction.
