In the second book in the Dragon War Chronicles series by A.G. Carothers, we pick up right where we left off at the end of SYN Consulting and hit the ground running. Danica, Xander and Aiden are deeply wounded and no one knows by what. A race to find the cure is on. Danica's family and new SLIP allies join together to save them, including Kollin, who continues feeling a strong pull and connection with Danica.

We hear from more viewpoints in this book. I enjoyed reading other character's perspectives of what they were feeling and experiencing during this chaotic and challenging time, especially Aiden's as I've been curious about him. I was intrigued and awed with all the methods used to try to heal Danica, Xander and Aiden. Also, we have the pleasure of watching the bonds between the main characters grow stronger and closer. Just have to say I'm a big fan of jaguars and bears and Kollin makes me laugh with his obliviousness yet he frustrates me too. Hopefully, they'll work it out someday.

Even though some answers are revealed, even more questions arise about the attacks and who's behind them. New clans form to combat the outside forces and I love the playfulness between them all, in particular bear tails and tag. We end on another cliffhanger and I for one can't wait to see what's in store for our gang! Another fantastic read by A.G. Carothers.

Yes, they did it again. The fantasyworld sucked me from the first word right back in. I loved this book, it gave me all the feels. I love these characters. Danica with her big heart, Xander, Matt, Kenshin, Bastien, Kollin but especially Aiden.
I cannot wait for the next book!

This is book two of the Dragon War Chronicles series and the main characters are dragon hybrid shifter Danica Lestrange, CEO of SYN Consulting, and dragon shifter Killion Ormisson, heir to the Norweigan Dragon Clan and CEO of KleanTech. They met when their companies were getting involved together in a merger with Global Gas. Danica is the first female dragon born in over 800 years, raised by a human mother and kept hidden from other dragons and their world. All around the world dragon clans have largely abandoned their SLIPs, the beings they created to be useful to them millennia ago. Many of them have been killed or hunted down, but Danica has managed to help groups of them through her many businesses, expanding her own clan immensely with people who are totally loyal to her. She also has two fully bonded protectors, Aiden and Xander, which is quite unusual. The story starts with Killion coming to the help of Danica and her SLIPs, after a huge explosion inside the mountain of a small SLIP town in Canada. Many dragons, SLIPs and praeses were caught inside, although Killion had managed to evacuate most of the clan from the mountain. He hadn’t listened to the warnings and it has meant deaths and lots of injuries. Danica, Aiden and Xander have been shot with some sort of chemical bioweapon, developed by human scientists, and none of them are conscious. In fact Danica’s dragon magic and healing ability aren’t working, so she may not have much time left. Killion has been attracted to her, but knows she is not exactly a fan of dragons, especially with the past history of dragons to go by, plus the fact many would want to mate with her, whether they like her or not!

Danica has a lot of strong people on her side, Kenshin Mori a fox shifter, Klaus a wolf shifter alpha, Matt a panther shifter and her IT Guru, Bastien, her and Aiden’s adopted son, as well as more who join her, like Blackpaw the alpha of a romaing pack from the States and then also Tyler, alpha lion shifter of the Sahara. Many were saved by her and her companies. Only the fact that Aiden and Xander were with Danica at the time of the attack, allowed her to survive, as Killon and Kenshin try to find out what they were shot with. Killon goes to his lab in Oslo, whilst Kenshin goes to Danica’s stronghold in Toulouse, as they also prepare to transport all three of them to her vault, below her main building. Her hoard of treasures, as each dragon has, lies in a vault protected by strong wards, below the building and they need Killon, as another dragon, to see if he can break in, to allow her to hopefully heal, surrounded by her hoard! Killon wants to keep her very presence secret from other dragons and the dragon council, but he has no choice but to let his father know. They need assistance from his own strike team, to attack three possible labs they have identified in Russia, through Matt’s computer searching, finding one company linked to the attack so far. Her secrets are revealed and more are found out about her and her actual parents, one who was long thought from an extinct clan of dragons, and another not who she was raised by!

There is lots of sex and sexual talk going on in this story, with Danica especially, doing exactly what she wants and with whoever she wants. She has some interest in Killon, but she doesn’t want to be used as a brood mare by a fellow dragon and nor does she want to give up either of her bonded protectors. Even though their relationships have expanded outside of the bond between the three of them. Danica takes what she wants from those around her and isn’t shy about doing so and all of her clans are used to her behaviour. There are all kinds of sexual situations openly played out, but a lot of fun and loyalty from those around her. She has built a large group of different clans and alphas who were willing to swear locality to her, giving her ultimate control over all of them, from varied SLIPs and praeses, with shifters of all kinds. Once she awakens, they start planning for the raids on the three sites, but first Danica insists on her people having some fun and organises a huge outdoor celebration. There she gets off with a new alpha who has joined her group and Killon sees her over a video call and gets rather jealous seeing her carrying on. Even his men fancy her and make comments and he tells them that she is his and to leave her alone. Not the best thing to say in front of her, even if he thought he wouldn’t be understood by her! Mistakes like that and his comments about her being his, could make or break his chances with her now! We have to wait and see what is going to happen next, as the story ends before the start on the raids on the suspected lab locations. I look forward to reading the next one in the series. There is a useful appendix with explanations of SLIPs, praeses and all the different characters, some of which would have been useful at the beginning of this book. Even though I had read the first book, it was a while ago and the terms praeses and SLIPs left me somewhat confused. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
