An okay read!
I really enjoyed this book for the first 80% and I thought it was going to be a 4 star read but to be honest, the last 10% really annoyed me. I just didn't think what happened was necessary to the story.

The characters were lovable and I enjoyed their stories and journey together as a throuple.

Spoilers ahoy!

I was really enjoying this adoptive brother plus much younger man ménage until the last 80%. Then suddenly we’re talking about how God has rape survivors experience their trauma because “God knows we can handle it.” This is such an invalidating and dangerous rhetoric to push, and I went to bed mad about it.

I woke up and then experienced a character death (of a POV character) and one of my leads turning into a rock instead of being given an HEA.

Very enjoyable until the denouement. Very sad it had to go this way.

Fast burn with incest kink, choking, spit-roast, and biting.

This was a cool concept, I liked the setting, the almost paranormal aspect of the mindreading, it was fun.

I just did not connect with the characters, though. This is probably my 6th Nyla K book, and it's definitely my least favourite.

I just could not get over the tiny little plot holes, just couldn't sit with the story properly. While the world itself was fun I don't think the world building was very strong. I can't see how this cult of people completely isolated from society are so self sufficient. How they have a construction team. How they keep getting away from police.
Also I hated how insta love it felt with Abdiel and Darian and Drake, which is crazy because it took them like 200 pages to start getting together but it still felt rushed and I didn't enjoy it.

Another thing that i dont particularly enjoy, and this may be a personal thing but I just don't like books with jealousy of each other within a poly couple.

Lastly, I had read the White Snake (which is the Grimm brothers' fairy tale this is a retelling of)as a child, and to be honest i really did not make the connections and interpret the story as much as I should have. It was only after reading the author's note at the end I began drawing my conclusions. That just doesn't sit right with me, though, that the author had to come out and explain to you the aspects of her interpretation when you should've picked it apart on your own.
Also the author recommends rereading for a better understanding but i don't think I will

Well this was definitely something different from Nyla. I wasn't familiar with this fairytale from Grimm's Brothers, so when I found out this arthur was writing it and she's one of my favorites, so yes please. I went in this blind, so I didn't know quiet what to expect and damn am I glad I did this book was so good and when I'd think I had something figured out I'd realize nope that's not it. That's all I'm saying you just need to find out for yourself.

I just loved this book. Nyla warned us it was out there, and if you’ve read Nyla’s books you know she loves to write a serious mind fuck on a good day, so I was nervous about this one! It was just so damn good. The writing truly transported me to the Expanse. I felt just like the rest of the Regnum, wondering why anyone would want to leave.

I ADORED all of the characters in this book, especially the three main characters. There is something so precious about each of them in their own way and they just burrowed right into my heart.
About half way through, we meet Rhiannon. Now, we’ve already established some pretty amazing relationships by this point in the story even though they’re troubled in their own ways. I was nervous about how she would change the course of their fates and the fate of the book. Without giving too much away, I’ll just say she’s a catalyst and I ended up loving the role she played in the story.

There is psychedelic drug use in this book that allows them to speak telepathically. Of course, this adds an almost pnr element to the book but the real story is about the relationships, truth, evolution of self, transformation and getting rid of burdens we don’t need to carry alone.

I was completely absorbed in this whole world and then Nyla threw out the last sentence of the last epilogue. I had to sit with my head cocked to the side like Abdiel when he’s doing his golden retriever impersonation for a good while to even begin to sort out the scrambled eggs she had just made of my brain. Needless to say, this book will stick with me for a long time.

Read this book with your third eye open and prepare for your own ecdysis by the end.
