I don't know what I expected with this book, but it wasn't this. Looking for Alaska is so much more. Thank you for bringing this story into the world, John Green, and for sharing it with us. 💜

This book really teaches to be better to one another. You don't know what someone is going through.

I first read this book when I was in high school, and after finding it at the thrift store for 99 cents, decided to re-read it with an adult brain. I had forgotten most of what happened in the roughly 10ish years since I last read it, and I think it holds up pretty well. In my opinion, this book is a great choice for many high school students to read. It deals with difficult topics in a way that is accessible and relatable for people that age. It’s unfortunate that this is frequently banned/challenged in schools.

I've put off reading more John Green for a few years since The Fault in Our Stars had me SOBBING in public. I was sensible and read this one at home so only my fiancé saw the state I was in by the end.

I didn't like any of the characters but I believed in them. The protagonist is callous and more concerned with getting some action than anything else but I think that was true for a lot of us in our teens.

Although you can probably tell what's coming,
Alaska's death
is so painful. When I was at school a
boy died in an accident and it really turned the world upside down for us other kids because most of us hadn't known someone young die before or hadn't given much thought to the concept that one of our peers could die so young. One day he was there and the next he was gone.
Whether or not someone reading this had something happen at a similar age, that they can relate to this book, I think for most readers it will be a very emotional read.

This was a re-read from years and years ago. Still holds up today
