"I Will Not Die Alone” starts out as adorable book of affirmations and determined declarations paired with cute illustrations of anthropomorphic animals in various situations. For example: "Giving up is not an option today," paired with a turtle on its back. A beaver in platform shoes, with the saying, “I will reach new heights.” Each of these could easily be a meme, a poster, or a delightful greeting card. But the book takes a sharp turn toward something entirely different at about the halfway mark, and becomes something both more disturbing and more profound. I won’t spoil the twist, but the book had me teary-eyed at the end – and then laughing at one final illustration. Short, sweet, and a little bit twisted – and definitely worth picking up.

‘I Will Not Die Alone’ by Dera White with illustrations by Joe Bennett is a book that is not all that it first appears to be.
This is a book with anthropomorphic animals and comforting self-love affirmations. At least, that’s how it starts out, but it becomes apparent that there is impending doom approaching and perhaps our attitude in the face of that is also as important as our day to day struggles.
I knew nothing about this book, so the first half was nice but nothing special. The ending is powerful and meaningful. The art is also great.

Apocalyptic inspiration…or inspiration in the face of an apocalypse…? Either way, a super cute book with an empowering motivational thought on each page. Paired with the drawings, it takes on a while new meaning! Funny, dark, and timely!

This was so funny. I didn't really know what to expect, and at first thought it was just some type of funnily illustrated affirmations, but then I realised there was a small plot going on and it was just really funny and tickled me. Totally cheered me up and put me in such a good mindset for the day!

At first, I thought this was just a fun book with little affirmations to help get through the day, but wow was I wrong! This is a quick read, but I think it has made me look at life a little differently. We need to live more like it's our last day. And I know that's something that people say a lot, but reading this and seeing how it affects different lives, I think it adds a new dimension. This is a spectacular read and, without writing an actual story, we definitely see it via the illustrations.
