This book is so cliche it hurts.
I really forced myself to finish this and it took me forever. Lacks edition, the lady in distress that can't do anything by herself and needs constant help from males made me cringe. This is twilight meets the Disney version of the Grimm brothers fairy tales. Yuck.

I'm not sure how to feel about this one.
UnEnchanted has a pretty great premise, and one that's probably fairly common but that I haven't seen a lot of. It's a girl trapped to relive the Brothers Grimm fairytales because she is their descendant and is forced to live out her family's curse.
The way this is revealed is done in an interesting way. On a class field trip, she saves her crush, the school's golden boy, from falling over a ledge. This is the beginning of the first fairytale she has to conquer. It's only a few days later that her mother actually bothers to tell her about the curse.
It's pretty easy to discern which fairytales Mina is going through, although I've never heard of the one with the stag and the bull. Still, the clues are very much there, and she's a little slow for not being able to pick up on them immediately.
Unfortunately, Mina turns out to be much more of a damsel in distress character than I like to see in this type of story. There are two boys who are more of the heroes, and this is the role Mina expects them to play, so much that she is reluctant to do anything for herself because the Story is directing her to be helpless. I'm not a huge fan the way this is written, especially because the major players are high school freshmen or sophomores.
I will be the first to ask for a good plot twist, but the way [a:Chanda Hahn|5441556|Chanda Hahn|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1446580221p2/5441556.jpg] implements this is questionable at best. Much of the book is very predictable, but the ending has more of a twist and is kind of uncomfortable and doesn't make a lot of sense.
Personally, I think this novel has a lot to do with fate and free will, where fate and perceived fate plays too much of a role in the character's lives and interpersonal relationships. The ending honestly did change all my views on what this story was actually about, and what to expect in the sequel.
I am not sure whether I want to continue this story. It's definitely not the type of book where I want to go out and buy the sequel right away, but it's something I might find myself coming back to. I liked this enough, but there were certainly flaws.

UnEnchanted by Chandra Hahn offers a fresh twist on modern fantasy, blending witty humor with a thought-provoking exploration of disillusionment in a world where magic is as unpredictable as it is alluring. The protagonist’s journey—torn between the allure of enchantment and the harsh truths of her reality—serves as a compelling narrative thread that keeps you invested throughout.
Hahn’s world-building is detailed and immersive, with magical artifacts and bewitching spells that add depth and intrigue to the storyline. While some subplots could benefit from a bit more development, the overall pace and character dynamics make for an engaging read. UnEnchanted strikes a fine balance between the lighthearted and the tragic, earning it a solid 4 stars for its creative narrative and imaginative take on the genre.

UnEnchanted can be classified as a YA or a fairy tale, but in my opinion, Hahn does an amazing job at combining these two and as a result, created a very compelling story to read. The concept of this novel is so original and creative that I was hooked as soon as I read the summary (and it was free on kobo so I checked it out!) The idea of this book is that a regular teenage girl must go encounter countless fairy tales that her ancestors, the Grimm Brothers, wrote and endure hardship, heartbreak, confronting terrifying personalities while risking her life. There were some things that I really enjoyed about UnEnchanted, but others that I didn't quite enjoy.
1. The Story Concept
OMG, okay so I don't even know where to start. The plot line to UnEnchanted is so awesome. I mean the Grimm Brothers, really! When I started reading I immediately thought, "Wow. That is such a great idea!" I'm not aware if there are novels similar to Hahn's, but it was new to me. Nowadays, we see so many YA novels that revolve around a dystopian land, very unlike our world today which makes these books very interesting, but to be honest, that wasn't what got my attention. I really enjoyed the merging of fairytales & YA. Trust me, you will not be let down with this story! Very excited to read the next book :)
2. The Love Triangle(ish)
Iv'e read other reviews on here and noticed that some people didn't like this love triangle in UnEnchanted. To me, it made everything much more thrilling. Some are comparing it to Twilight and other typical love triangles, but I don't think this one is like that at all. Mina is nowhere near being best friends with Jared, the mysterious guy trying to help her whom she also has secret feelings for. Brody, her boyfriend (sort of. you have to read it to understand), is a really nice guy but I would like to see her with Jared. To be honest, it's not much of a love triangle because neither Jared or Mina admit their feelings for one another, but its obvious! Anyway, I thought this was well done :)
3. Fast-Paced
Finally, I found UnEnchanted very fast-paced and hard to put down. Maybe it's because I read it on an e-reader and that tends to help me read faster, but I just got through this book really fast! Short novel or not, the events that came after one another just made for a really great and exciting story, making it hard for me to put it down!
Although this was a stellar story, there were some things that prevented me from giving UnEnchanted the 5 star rating.
1. The Errors in Grammar and Punctuation
Now I know this probably sounds so typical for me to say, but being so used to novels with little to no mistakes in grammar and punctuation it was pretty evident while reading, and frankly kind of annoying. BUT , I know that Chanda Hahn is a self-published author and they don't recieeve the class A editing process that perfects novels, so that didn't bother me that much.
2. The Lack of Description of Events and Settings
So I don't know if what I'm about to say is going to make much sense, but I'm going to say, or rather write, about it anyway. I felt like some of the key events in the novel weren't described as much as or as well as I thought they could have been. I mean I absolutely loved the idea for this story, and it kind of let me down when we didn't get the full illustration of some occurrences or even settings. If we got more background as to where Mina lived and where she spent her days with Nan and Brody, I feel like the story would have seemed more real instead of leaving that up to the reader.
3. The Lack of Descriptions of Characters
This may seem repetitive but once again, I feel like we could have gotten to know Mina, her friends and family a lot better with more background stories and information as to what they were like. This would have made for a much more relatable book, not that it really could be considering the plot line, but more real
In the end, a really great read! 4 stars! :)

The story plot for this was interesting, but the characterization was unrealistic. I just couldn't believe her best friend could be so annoyingly heartless in the way she treated the protagonist. With so many other books to read I just couldn't make myself go back to this one. Maybe later I'll be able to get back to it and finish it. But for now it is staying on the couldn't finish list for me.
I truly liked this book. Who knew I'd like a book about what it might be like to be a Grimm who has to live out modern day fables?
Disenchanted review
A very interesting story. I liked the twists and plays on Fairytales, but I did notice a few minor editing errors.

As far as free, young adult, kindle books go this one wasn't that bad.
It was a fast read. I know a lot of reviews had problems with the grammar mistakes, but I didn't notice them that that much. I have read young adult books (and adult) with worse mistakes.
some of the dialog was not flowing very well and there was little character development but I did enjoy the concept of the story.
I probably won't read the sequels though.

A twist on the plot of the tv show Grimm. This Grimm is a teenager and must live through all the tales to save her family.
